St. Patrick’s Festival 2023

DETAILS OF MACROOM ST. PATRICK’S WEEK FESTIVAL 11 TH – 17 TH MARCH 2023 ANNOUNCED.

The St. Patrick’s Week Festival Committee which is a sub committee of the Lee Valley Enterprise Board announced details of this year’s festival which starts on Saturday March 11th with the Flower of Macroom contest taking place in the Castle Hotel Ardilaun Suite at 8.00pm. The contest was last held in 2020 and was deferred in 2021 and 2022 due to Covid restrictions. The last winner of the Flower of Macroom was Lilly Healy and she will hand over her crown to the new winner on the night.

All the contestants will be presented and interviewed by Alf Mc Carthy formally of RTE and the winner will receive a cheque for €500 and will have the honour of being the Grand Marshall of the 2023 St Patrick’s Day Parade. While the judging is taking place music will be provided by a combo from the Woodland String Band – Thickets costing €10 for this event will be on sale shortly.

Macroom will be buzzing for the whole week with the arrival of 125 Americans from Philadelphia who will be accompanying a strong 30 member Woodland String Band for this year’s parade.

On Monday March 13 th a 70’s theme party will take place in the Castle Hotel at 8.00pm – Dress up in your finest 70’s style clothing and join the gang for music, laughter and fun. Free admission event.

On Wednesday March 15 th in Castle Hotel Ardilaun Suite at 8.00pm Karaoke contest followed by traditional music with The Pile Drivers. Free admission event. Thursday March 16 th The Woodland String Band will entertain the students of St. Colman’s National School and St Joseph’s National School.

Friday March 17th St. Patrick’s Day

  • International Mass in St. Colman’s Church, Macroom at 11.30am.

  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade starts at 3.30pm from St. Colman’s Park consisting of Steam Engine

  • Vintage Cars – Marching Groups – Floats – Dancing Groups – Marching Bands and our visitors from Philadelphia USA. The viewing platform will be situated at North Square Macroom.

  • Music in local Bars after parade.

  • Please cooperate with Stewards and Gardai. Diversions will be in place while the Parade is taking place.
