Dan Twomey's was first opened on 11th November 1970, when the late Dan and Shelagh Twomey leased the current premises from the late John O'Connell. Prior to this Dan had worked accross the road in another well known business at the time (Murphy and Brown) where the laundry basket now is.
From the beginning Dan and Shelagh set out to give the people of Macroom and surrounding areas personal service with quality clothing which would last the test of time, that is still the motto today.
Gradually over time a thriving business was built up with customers coming from all over Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Galway, Dublin etc. Many of the customers are still coming to this day and bringing their extended families with them. In time the premises was bought out and slowly extended to include the whole ground floor space.
After leaving school their son Hugh joined the family business and it was decided to form a limited company, hence the name Dan Twomey's Ltd.
In 1991 both Dan and Shelagh passed on their eternal reward after brief illness. In 1996 Hugh undertook the renovation of the shop front to give it its present day look. Shortly afterwards Hugh was joined by his wife Marie in the running of the business.
In 2011 the interior of the shop underwent a major revamp to give it a more spacious and plesant shopping expierence for everybody.
Hugh and Marie continue to strive to give their customers the best in quality and value in both ladies and gents clothing, boys communion and confirmation outfits, to their large selection of school uniforms, which are stocked all year round and they also stock household and habberdashery items
